Davids vs. Goliaths - week 9 2012

QB

David
Cam Newton at Washington
Newton has not been the star fantasy owners had hoped, but he hasn't been as bad as his numbers show. Last week he started showing signs of coming around and I think this week he steps up even more.  Expected line: 289 yards passing, 68 yards rushing 2 TDs passing, 1 TD rushing

Goliath
Matt Ryan vs. Dallas
I really don't see any Goliath QBs this week, but this is the toughest matchup for any of the top-tier guys. The Cowboys are one of the top passing defenses and this could be a trap game for Atlanta.  Expected line: 291 yards passing, 1 TD

RB

David
Pierre Thomas vs. Philadelphia
Darren Sproles is out and I've always liked Thomas as a running back. I think he steps up and shows that the Saints made a mistake trading up for Mark Ingram and that they already had a lead back on the roster.  Expected line: 105 yards rushing, 41 yards receiving, 1 TD rushing, 1 TD passing.

Goliath
Adrian Peterson at Seattle
The Seahawks have one of the best defenses in the NFL and they are incredible at home when they have the support of the 12th man. Peterson will struggle to get a full head of steam in this game.  Expected line:  74 yards rushing, 8 yards receiving, 0 TDs

WR

David
Mike Williams at Oakland
The addition of Vincent Jackson has really help Mike Williams. He sees less double coverage and has taken advantage of the opportunities he gets.  Expected line: 4 catches, 97 yards, 1 TD

Goliath
Percy Harvin at Seattle
As I mentioned above, Seattle's D are very tough at home. Harvin will get open, but he won't have a great day.  Expected line:  6 catches, 52 yards, 0 TDs

TE

David
Greg Olsen at Washington
If Newton is going to come around, he has to start using Olsen and I think he does that this week. Washington is very week against the pass and Olsen will get back on track for fantasy owners.  Expected line: 6 catches, 84 yards, 2 TDs

Goliath
Kyle Rudolph at Seattle
Once again, I'm expecting a Vikings player to disappoint his owners. Rudolph has had a coming out party this year, but he's better off on the bench this week.  Expected line: 2 catches, 15 yards, 0 TDs

D/ST

David
Cleveland vs. Baltimore
Cleveland will control this game on the ground and Trent Richardson will be the top fantasy player of the week. The Ravens can't stop anyone on the ground and they won't get the ball often on offense. When they do, we'll see bad Flacco. The Baltimore QB is simply terrible on the road.  Expected line: 16 points allowed, 273 yards allowed, 2 sacks, 2 INTs

Goliath
New York Giants vs. Pittsburgh
The Giants D has come on recently, but their weak point is still their secondary. Roethlisberger is hard to sack and will find his receivers down the field for big gains.  Expected line: 31 points allowed, 402 yards allowed, 1 sack

  1. I agree 100% with A Peterson...as I had him as my 'dud' in my article above. Looks like you think the entire Viking team will struggle...and that is certainly possible.

Also love the Greg Olsen pick. I have Vernon Davis as my TE on bye this week & picked up Olsen for at least a week...hope he does as well as you say!

Not really any disagreements here...though, the way Matt Ryan is playing this season, I would say putting him as a goliath any week is a risk. However, it wouldn't shock me this week. I think Dallas comes out desperate & gives Atlanta a good game tonight.

    Job well-done...

  2. Thanks. I hope you're right about the Boys. If they lose this week, the season may very well be over.
